How we got started?

 

Imagine coming home after a long day at work and having a registered letter waiting for you from a developer;

This is to notify you that there will be a public hearing before the town of Islip planning Board at Town Hall. 655 Main Street, Islip New York on July 19, 2007 P.M.

 

The purpose of this hearing is to discuss the merits of the proposal for the above captioned property to change the zoning district from Business1, Residential B to Industrial 1.

 

Proposed plans and detailed information can be reviewed at the Planning Department located at the Town Hall ,655 Main Street ,Islip New York or by Telephone # 224-5450.

 

Although written notification is given only to those within 200 feet of the subject property, please feel free to mention this application to any neighbor who may care to attend. At this meeting, all who choose to speak will be given the opportunity to be heard. This meeting is a major influence on the outcome of this application. So I went down to Town Hall only to find out the horror that was in store for my neighborhood if a zoning change were to be approved.

 

The application is being proposed to construct a Sayville self storage facility. Three buildings total; Two Hugh 2 story 15,000 SQ. FT each buildings with a third one story 5,600 SQ FT. behind the Synagogue, Noah’s and Pats Automotive on Greeley Avenue right across the street from me? Oh..no I thought…

 

At fist I was out outraged then I felt; well, I guess its time to sell, looks grim if this is approved. Then I was filled with hope as I met with fellow neighbors and we started a petition as well as inform every one of the hearing date and time.

 

 

 We were all set to go to the hearing only to find out it had been ADJOURNED by the applicant James Rooney.

 

Now what do we do?

 

We had worked so hard going around giving out flyers meeting so many wonderful people whom were planning to attend the meeting. 

 

 That’s how we started the Sayville Civic Association web site.  Now we can stay in touch with our fellow residents that choose to participate and be heard.
